Kate Winslet about period after Titanic: ‘My life was quite unpleasant’

The actress did not enjoy the enormous attention.

It’s been more than two decades since Kate Winslet captured the hearts of audiences as the fearless Rose DeWitt Bukater in the classic Titanic. But even now she is still reminded of her role in the blockbuster every day. In conversation with Porter magazine, she reveals more about her life the Titanic period.

Popular movie

Kate played none other than Rose in the popular 1997 film. Together with Leonardo DiCaprio, she caused many people to shed a tear. Kate was only 22 when the film came out. The great success of the film made a great impression on her, both positively and negatively. “I felt like I had to look a certain way or be a certain way, and because the media was so intrusive at the time, my life was quite unpleasant,” says Kate.

“Journalists used to say, ‘After Titanic you could have done anything, but you still chose to do these little things,” continues Kate, explaining that she deliberately wanted to do smaller roles because she didn’t enjoy the enormous attention. “I was like, ‘Yeah, you bet I did! Because guess what, being famous was horrible.”

Used to success

Although she did not enjoy all the attention, she is grateful for the success of the film. After all, it has brought her financial stability. Although there were also disadvantages. “I was of course grateful, because the money I earned allowed me to buy a house. But I didn’t want to be followed when I went to feed the ducks”

Nowadays, Kate can deal with her fame better and it is no longer a burden to her. “The film still brings a lot of pleasure to many people. Only when we are on a boat do I sometimes think: oh God, we have to hide.”
