A holiday involves a party and a drink. You deserve it and it’s often fun to try the drinks from another culture that you don’t have here. Ever had a tinto de verano? In other words, the mix between red wine and 7UP (or another soft drink)? If so, you probably know that you drink it down quickly and get drunk quickly. However, it will bother you less the next day. The hangover is minimal and you have energy for the rest of the day. This is how that happens.
Why your hangover is less bad on holiday
Distraction
In the Netherlands you probably don’t plan much for the day after a party and you have the time and space to be broke. This is different on holiday, where it is a party every day. No need to lie in bed for hours the next day (probably too hot if you go to a warm country), go outside with that business! Visiting a city or place, swimming or eating is a good distraction from the effects of one too many drinks. As long as you drink enough water, you often won’t notice it when you do something fun.
Relaxed
A big reason for minimally having a hangover on holiday is that you are relaxed. You don’t have to do anything, you have little stress and above all you do what you feel like doing. If you feel like just sitting in your hotel room all day and watching a series in bed with the air conditioning on, then you do that and the hangover will disappear like clouds in the sun. When you are rested, you can physically handle more. You sleep more and also eat a lot on holiday. This also helps against a hangover.
Drink more water
On hot days, many people drink a large amount of water. That’s good, because it removes all waste products from your body and prevents headaches. Let that be just something that alcohol does to you. A hangover is a consequence of dehydration, the signs of which you probably recognize. You have to go to the toilet more often, after which you wake up dizzy and with a headache the next day. Not if you drink a lot of water all day long. So do this by all means. It will certainly do you good.
Are you feeling exhausted and hungover due to the heat and perhaps some lack of sleep? Then hydrate yourself. Water, coconut water (looks great on the lounger), a delicious cold fruit smoothie or a watermelon are good, hydrating and refreshing anti-hangover remedies. Cheers!
