How do you get your discipline back?

Once you lose your discipline, it is sometimes difficult to get it back. You find it difficult to do what you have to do and are quickly tempted by other things. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to learn and/or regain discipline. Curious about these methods? Then read on quickly.

Start working towards a goal

Give yourself a clear goal. For example, do you want to become better at running? Don’t say: I want to run further distances, but set the goal that, for example, after the winter you want to run 5 kilometers in 30 minutes. This way you make it clear to yourself what you are going to work towards and it becomes more difficult to get out of it.

Draw up a step-by-step plan

Once you have set a goal, it is smart to make a plan on how you will achieve this goal. Draw up a realistic step-by-step plan for this, in which you create an overview and set interim goals. If you want to achieve your goal in one step, there is a good chance that you will completely lose your discipline in the event of a setback. While a step-by-step plan with interim goals offers you small victories that keep motivating you to continue.

Do everything one by one

Besides the fact that it is smart to work according to a step-by-step plan, it is also essential that you do not want to do everything at once. If you have multiple goals that you want to achieve, it is not smart to work on all of these goals at the same time. Although you may start off with a disciplined approach to your tasks, you will soon notice that you are not going to be able to complete them all at the same time and so the discipline will disappear again. Therefore, make good and realistic planning and ensure that you do not keep getting involved in setbacks.

Be strict with yourself

Discipline involves being strict with yourself. If you don’t impose rules on yourself, there is a good chance that you will make excuses for your behavior. You will not get your discipline back this way. So take a critical look at yourself and impose certain rules on your goals. Make sure you don’t become too strict, you should of course continue to enjoy life.

Reward yourself

To maintain discipline, it is smart to reward yourself regularly. Do this not only when achieving your goal, but also with your interim goals. This way you make it more interesting for yourself and it is easier to maintain your discipline. You keep working towards something, which boosts your motivation and discipline.
