How bad is it to hold back your big message?

Suppose you are on the road and you feel that you have to go to the toilet. But you don’t have the opportunity to do a big errand for whatever reason. You decide to call it quits. But is that actually wise?

What happens in your body when you stop your message?

We all know the feeling: you need to go to the bathroom but you don’t have the opportunity to go at the moment, so you hold it in. The short-term consequences of this are flatulence and bloating. When you reach the toilet, it’s a huge relief. And then you get rid of it, unless you make it a habit. If you hold your poop often or for a long time, this can have various consequences.

Holding back your big message makes it harder to go later

If you delay going to the toilet, your poop will stay in the same place. Here it becomes dry and hard. And the longer it sits, the worse this gets. Hard and dry turds are more difficult to get out. There is no exact timeline, but this can eventually lead to constipation. This won’t happen if you hold on to your message for a little too long. But remember that it will get drier the longer you leave it on. So save yourself the hassle and go to the bathroom as quickly as possible.

Hemorrhoids are lurking

Hemorrhoids are a common complication of putting off going to the toilet for too long. This can especially happen if you suffer from constipation. The more often you hold your poop, the more likely you are to become constipated and the higher the risk of hemorrhoids. Eating enough fiber and drinking enough water can prevent hemorrhoids from forming.

Holding in poop for too long or too often can have negative consequences for your health

Do not panic! Holding back on your big message once in a while isn’t going to cause you serious health problems. We all do it sometimes. But it’s important that you don’t make a habit of it. Chronic constipation can cause your muscles to weaken, which in turn can lead to rectal prolapse. This causes a piece of your colon to slip out of your anus. This feels like a bump and can resemble a hemorrhoid. But unlike hemorrhoids, this is less easy to treat at home and may even require surgery to fix. Our tip: just go to the toilet when you have to do a big errand.
