When you are a royal, there are a few things certain in life: your wardrobe is filled with the necessary designer items, you regularly have jaw pain from all the polite laughter and – whether you like it or not – a documentary is being made about it. made your life. For example, Harry and Meghan were featured in a documentary series in which they talked endlessly about themselves, a series about Queen Máxima is in the making and the love story of Norwegian royal couple Harald and Sonja is being made into a film.

Charles can now also join that list. The first year as king was reason enough for the BBC to make a documentary about him. The documentary, called Charles III: The Coronation Year, provides a unique insight into the taking of the throne. Because even though the historic event was broadcast to millions of people around the world, the personal insights and behind-the-scenes moments have remained somewhat hidden. So far!
Unique insight
The film, made by Oxford Films, offers exclusive access to the real world of the crown, according to the makers. The film is being helmed by Helena Bonham Carter – who was highly regarded for her portrayal of Princess Margaret in Netflix’s The Crown – and will offer “unparalleled insights” into the real world of the King and Queen. That is promising!
The cameras will follow Britain’s most famous couple through historic moments, showing a more intimate and private side of important public events. And that’s what we want! For example, the preparations for the couple’s coronation in May are discussed and we see previously unseen footage of Charles during one of the rehearsals in Westminster Abbey. Yet we also secretly hope to get a glimpse into the love life of the royal couple and witness relaxed moments in their daily lives.
The BBC broadcasts the documentary in December and is part of the British broadcaster’s Christmas programming. It is not yet clear whether and how the documentary will be shown in the Netherlands. We’ll keep you posted!
