Leslie Keijzer opens up about the impact of postnatal depression on her family

In the most recent episode she has a candid conversation with her husband Goof.

Real Gooische Mother Leslie Keijzer is very open about her past in the current season of Real Gooische Mothers. She has had postpartum depression, and she has now written a book about this part of her life. In the most recent episode we see how she has a vulnerable conversation with her husband ‘Goof’.

Way out in parties

After the birth of her two sons, Leslie Keijzer fell into a deep depression. A period that also had a major influence on Goof. “It was just very annoying for me to see that you were having a very difficult time with everything,” he says honestly when Leslie asks him about his experience.

At that time, the Gooische mother too often sought an escape through parties and events. “I gave all my energy there and then I was back home and lay quietly on the couch again. And I actually did that for a very long time,” she admits. This was difficult for her husband to see, he shares. “That was also one of the things we often argued about: that you did that, but you weren’t there for us. At least then you did something from which you got something positive, but for the rest of the week you were worth nothing.”

Still stayed

Even though her depressive period had a major impact on their relationship, Leslie and Goof are still happy together. During a candid conversation she wonders why. “Why did you stay?” she asks her husband. “Because we have children,” he then responds. “Just because of that? Yes, you mean it,” Leslie laughs. “Sure, I love you, good times, bad times,” Goof said. He also believes that you ‘can’t just walk away’ if you have children together. “Would you otherwise have run away?” Leslie wonders. “What if we didn’t have a child and a house together? Then I think it would have been a lot more difficult,” he admits honestly. And that’s something Leslie understands well. “If someone is depressed around you for so long, you will also suffer.”

Sons

The Gooische mother especially hopes that her sons have not experienced anything from this period. “I just hope they were both small enough and it didn’t bother them.” Leslie and Goof end the conversation on a positive note. “I’m very happy that you are back to normal now. That you are almost back to normal,” Goof grins. And Leslie states that they “really have fun together.” Aww!
