Joey Kelly (50) became famous as part of the successful band The Kelly Family. Together with his siblings, he has already toured large cities and filled huge halls. But the musician and his loved ones didn’t always lead a life of luxury. Joey now takes a deep look into his past: in his childhood there was only enough money for the bare necessities.
In the past few days, the adventurous entrepreneur took part in the “Big Brother Knossi Edition” experiment and was stuck in a container with other celebrities and internet stars. Suddenly it became very emotional – he remembered the death of his mother Barbara-Ann. That was back then Joey was just nine years old: “We were so poor that we couldn’t even buy a coffin.”
He and his siblings built one themselves: “We made a coffin out of lumber for my mother.” Barbara-Ann died of breast cancer at the age of 36. At that point were Joey and his family are not yet stars. They had lived on the streets and had to beg. It wasn’t until many years later, in 1994, that The Kelly Family achieved their breakthrough with their first album.
