Café de Dulle Griet
Have you ever had to hand in your shoe somewhere as deposit for a special glass that you can drink from? It happens in this cafe. When you order Dulle Griet’s own brewed MAX beer, you will be asked to take off your shoe, which will then be hung in a net from the ceiling. You will then receive a coachman’s glass in return. Yet another experience richer.
@matadornetwork Step into tradition 👞 Raise a Glass at Dulle Griet, Ghent’s iconic shoe-for-beer pub 🍺 Discover the captivating world of Dulle Griet, where patrons embrace the shoe-for-beer tradition. One of the most distinctive aspects of this pub is its unusual tradition related to the serving of its “#Maximus” beer. This practice is believed to have originated as a way to ensure that customers return the glass, which is too large to be easily taken home as a souvenir. Beyond its reputation for the “shoe for beer” tradition, Dulle Griet provides an authentic cultural experience. It offers a glimpse into the conviviality and camaraderie that are integral to #Belgianbeer-drinking culture. Explore a diverse selection of 400+ Belgian brews amidst a vintage Flemish setting.
