Of course we all know Bob Sikkes from the television program Buy Without Watching. While Bob is in the spotlight, his partner Michiel Engbers prefers to stay in the background. But surprisingly, Michiel now decides to step forward and share a little more about his man. And guess what? Michiel reveals something about Bob that you don’t see coming at all.
Guilty pleasure
In Buying Without Looking we always see Bob as that neat man. But did you know that he also has a completely different side? Michiel reveals that Bob secretly loves Dutch folk music! “He likes to sing along to tearjerkers, that’s really his guilty pleasure,” Michiel says in an interview with Margriet. “Personally I’m not a fan of that, but it doesn’t bother me. I actually think it’s quite funny.”
Feast of love
Bob’s taste in music was also evident during their lovefest. “Last year we wanted to throw a big party with performances by Bonnie St. Claire and Danny Nicolay,” Bob’s sweetheart continues. “We rented a location for this and invited everyone who is important in our lives. A celebration of love? Actually, yes. We both had a short speech and expressed how happy we are with each other.”
Love at first sight
The two lovers met twenty years ago. And it was love at first sight: “Maybe naive, but I knew from the first day that I would grow old with Bob. We have a great time together. I still think he is a nice, handsome guy. Very confident. In terms of work, we are in different worlds.”
Two worlds
Michiel, who normally stands in front of the class as a history teacher, reveals that he is actually a completely different type than Bob Sikkes: “Bob is really calm, while I am a bit more emotional,” he says with a wink. “Sometimes I’m a bit of a hypochondriac; the slightest thing makes me immediately think of the worst. Fortunately, Bob always knows how to put me back on the ground with his putting things into perspective. After a long day at school, I love it to just flop on the couch and zap. But Bob? He never sits still! He is always busy, except perhaps reading the newspaper. He is completely in his element relaxation.” Cute!
