In terms of personality they couldn’t be more different. Yet Mathilde and Máxima are regularly spotted in very similar outfits. Jelka from Garderobe Royale and Josine from Fashion Queen Máxima went together in search of royal duplicates. In this blog you will see four examples again.

Josine: “Around 2015, fashion house Natan worked a lot with gray pencil skirts. Máxima and Mathilde both order one that ends high at the waist. Above: a brightly colored top. Mathilde a soft pink, Máxima a yellow one. The fact that the design is timeless is evident from the fact that Máxima took hers out again this week.”

Josine: “With customization you can decide on every detail yourself. In the dress below you can see the choices of both queens differ subtly. For example, Máxima’s orange bodice starts just above her hips, while Mathilde’s skirt ends significantly higher. Technically, Mathilde’s choice is better, because the eye focuses on the lightest part of an outfit. In Mathilde’s case, the slimmest part of her upper body is emphasized, while in Maxima’s case the emphasis is on the widest part (the hip). Second difference: Mathilde does not have a belt, Máxima (fortunately) does. Third difference: Mathilde does not have folded cuffs, Máxima does.”

Jelka: “Although Mathilde and Máxima finished this Natan ensemble with a fine floral pattern with a similar bandeau, the differences here are greater than the similarities. Máxima chose a skirt and top combination in ocher yellow and dark blue, while Mathilde ordered a dress with a short jacket over it. The Belgian queen also made her outfit look very similar to a kimono, and that was no coincidence, because she wore it during a state visit to South Korea, also reflected in the colors she chose: dark red and silver gray, in which you can see the recognize the flag of that country.”

Jelka: “Mathilde in white and Máxima in dark blue prove with this dress that something as simple as color can determine the appearance of a dress so much. The dress is identical except for the color. The white of Mathilde appears a bit more stately than the blue of Máxima, which gives a more relaxed image. You can also see this in the nice necklace that Máxima wears with this dress, an easier task than wearing such chunky jewelry on something white.”
