Done list vs. to do list: this is how it works

Making a to-do list seems positive, but at the end of the day, week or year it is often disappointing: you may not have completed all the dots. You may not feel satisfied and that is not the purpose of such a list. Fortunately, we’ve found a trick that will help you look at your to-do list from a more positive side. We introduce the done list…

Create a to-do list

To do lists can be used in many ways. Maybe you use it as your annual bucket list, or perhaps as a daily handy. Checking off tasks, large or small, is a wonderful feeling. However, a to-do list can sometimes also be disappointing, because you do not always achieve your goals for the day (or the year). Maybe you make your list so long that you simply can’t cross everything off. That can give you a lot of anxiety or stress at the end of the day, because you don’t end your day the way you would have liked.

To look at everything from a more positive side in this new year, we have found a list that will make your daily experience much more fun and also make you feel very fulfilled. It’s all about the done list. We are going to explain it to you in detail.

Done list

Where you write down everything you still have to do that day, week, month or year in a to-do list, you write down everything you have already done in a done list. With this we actually want to celebrate everything we have already done that day, instead of focusing negatively on the things that did not work out. This will give your positive mindset a big boost. The done list shows you how productive you have been in a day, even if you ‘only’ did some shopping. We think it would be a good idea to think about the little things you do this year.

Realistic

As nice and nice as it all sounds, we know that a to-do list often also works as a reminder for people who just want to have an overview of what they have to do in a day. Using only a done list is therefore not very realistic. What you can do is create two lists. A to-do list where you don’t check anything off, but you can see what you actually have to do that day. Keep the done list next to it and write down everything you have done on that list. You no longer look at that to-do list in the evening, but you still celebrate all your victories from your done list before you go to sleep. Nice habit for 2024, right?
