Is Máxima’s dress purple or dark blue? Red or orange? Due to circumstances, the queen’s outfits can really fool us.
I already mentioned it in the blog about the new state portraits : colors are not fixed in the world of photography. Just when you think Máxima’s dress is orange, another photo pops up where it looks red. When blogging I try to use images that are closest to reality, but there are so many factors involved that the actual color is sometimes a mystery to me.
What factors are there? First of all, light. Maybe you already know the theory of light on wall colors. If you have a north-facing room, there is a chance that almost no sunlight enters. This creates a cool glow, which gives white walls a blue glow. The use of warm paint colors, such as orange or pink, is recommended. In the world of fashion colors, sunlight is unfortunately not a given. A dress moves from room to room, so sometimes there is sunlight and other times there is not. This can have so much influence that sometimes the dress appears dark blue (inside) and other times purple (outside).

Backlight, flash, photo quality and photoshop can also put a twist on the color of an outfit.

Even the dress of dresses is -a little- susceptible to the mating dance of color and light.

Do you have doubts about the correct representation of an outfit? Then take a look at Máxima’s digital wardrobe. All occasions are displayed there, so you can see what a dress/jacket/pantsuit looked like on a previous occasion.
