Do you experience work pressure? You can reduce it with these tips

Although it is not always talked about: a lot of people experience pressure in the workplace. Sometimes it just becomes too much. That can happen of course, but it is not pleasant. To avoid unpleasant consequences, it is important to reduce workload. With these tips you will certainly succeed.

Tips to reduce workload

Whether it’s because of your (annoying) boss or because you’re a stress sufferer yourself, work pressure is never pleasant. You feel embarrassed and maybe even a little burned out. It is quite possible that this causes you to perform your work less well and, for example, to make mistakes that you would otherwise never make. So it’s smart to do something about this. We hope that with these tips we can reduce your workload.

First things first

If you have a lot of work to do and you are already feeling busy, it is sometimes difficult to see the forest for the trees. Still, it’s good to do your most important tasks first. Make this a clear list and only write down things that are really important. Small, less important tasks will come later.

Say ‘no’ more often

Now we understand that it can be quite difficult to say ‘no’ to your boss, but if it doesn’t work out for whatever reason, it is good to indicate this. That benefits everyone the most. Perhaps you could suggest that your colleague with a less full agenda take over that one task? Of course, this only applies when it comes to tasks that fall outside your package. Unfortunately, you can’t push your own work onto someone else…

Forget multitasking

Sometimes it can be useful if you are a great at multitasking, but when you experience work pressure it can only be counterproductive. If you jump from here to here with your work, something is bound to go wrong. Forget all that smart multitasking for a moment and make sure you do one task first. Again, the rest will come later.

Don’t work too much outside your hours

When you’re busy at work, it can be tempting to just continue working outside your regular hours. Then you think it will work out, but in the end this can also be counterproductive. It may make you feel less stressed temporarily, but working overtime every day is not good for your health. Ultimately you end up in a vicious circle; and figure it out.

Do not disturb

To ensure that you are not too distracted during your work by that one meme your girlfriend sends you or that email from that colleague who needs something unimportant from you, it is a good idea to keep your phone, watch (and actually all your devices) on do not disturb. This means you won’t receive any crazy notifications and you can just focus on your work. Tip: you can also put your phone on work mode. For example, you can receive important emails and phone calls, but social media notifications will be disabled at least for a while. This could reduce a large part of your workload.
