This common skin care mistake can cause bags under your eyes

It is not always due to a lack of sleep.

We often associate bags under the eyes with a lack of sleep. However, this does not necessarily have to be the cause of the circles under your eyes. A common mistake in your skincare can also be the culprit.

Overload

Proper care of the skin is necessary to keep it in good condition, but overloading with a hydrating moisturizer can have the opposite effect. If you’ve trained yourself to apply your moisturizer or night cream around your eye area, it’s time to change this immediately. It turns out that those heavier facial formulas overload the delicate under-eye area, leading to bags under the eyes.

Harmful effect

“Using a rich moisturizer can actually have a damaging effect around the eyes, causing a build-up of product, leading to an increase in bags and bags under the eyes,” skincare expert Emma Brown explains to Good Housekeeping.

“Our skin, especially the delicate skin around the eye, can only absorb a limited number of products. Once your skin has absorbed everything, any remaining product will remain on the skin’s surface. And every time you blink, your eyelashes move the skin care product closer or even into the eye. This can cause irritation, congestion, impaired lymphatic drainage and water retention.” You guessed it: this can result in bags under your eyes.

Good eye cream

That said, we don’t recommend immediately stopping applying products under and around the eye area. Instead, consider adding a lightweight eye cream to your daily skin care routine. Once you’ve invested in a good eye cream, it’s imperative to apply it properly. “It’s important to know how and where to apply the eye cream,” says Brown. “So do not place the product too close to the lash line, as this can easily cause irritation.

Golden tip against bags under the eyes

If you’ve woken up with dark bags under your eyes and need a quick fix, Brown has another great tip for you. “If you’re someone who wakes up with very puffy eyes, a good trick is to keep a teaspoon in the refrigerator overnight and use the cold, smooth surface to apply your eye cream, moving the spoon from the inside. moves from the nose to the outside of your eyebrows. The combination of the cold temperature and exercise will help to immediately reduce and resolve lymphatic drainage.”
