Chanel impresses with couture show in legendary opera house

Beautiful!

Fashion house CHANEL has had a close bond with the French opera since their early days. And a lot of inspiration was clearly drawn from this for the Fall-Winter 2024/25 haute couture collection that the label presented yesterday in the iconic Palais Garnier!

Haute couture

As a fashion lover, it can hardly have escaped your notice that the French capital is dominated by countless couture presentations this week. Yesterday the opening of day two was in the hands of Chanel. The fashion house, which is currently without a Creative Director after the abrupt departure of Virginie Viard, has clearly not given up. Yesterday they won many hearts in a special setting with an impressive collection of couture looks. Models walked back and forth in soft tweeds, dreamy dresses and warm coats in the Palais Garnier, the heart of French opera.

Opera

The ties between Chanel and the national opera go back a long way. In her time, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel designed costumes for various ballet performances such as Le Train Bleu (1924) and Apollon Musagète (1928). Chanel CEO Bruno Pavlovsky enthusiastically shared: “It’s always been kind of a dream to [een collectie] to be shown at the opera.” And now that dream has become reality, in a setting designed by director Christophe Honoré.

The fashion house itself shares: “Here the worlds of Haute Couture and opera mingle. Feathers, fringes, cabochons and embroidered flowers, lovely braids, lacquered jersey, supple tweed, silky-soft velvet, illusionary tulle, taffeta and duchesse satin: opulent materials that gently rustle.”

We saw plenty of vintage influences in the collection: from the extensive Chanel history and the local opera, to clear eighties inspiration with a soft pink jumpsuit and of course the magnificent wedding dress shown by model Angelina Kendall.

If you were not able to attend the show in Paris: you can admire the entire Haute Couture collection from A to Z below.

Future

This is the first Chanel collection that the house has shown since parting ways with Virginie Viard, who followed in the footsteps of the late Karl Lagerfeld and was the creative driving force behind the label from 2019 to 2024.

Who will follow in her footsteps? Little is known about this yet. Pavlovsky also remained tight-lipped about this. “I have no idea,” he told WWD. “What I do know is that the brand is strong.” Whose deed!
