Did you recognize her voice?
Dearest gentle reader, it won’t surprise you that the Glamial editorial staff binged the new episodes of Bridgerton in one sitting last week. Although we now know which cream of the crop is hiding behind the pseudonym Lady Whistledown, the voice of the infamous writer will undoubtedly also be very familiar to you.
Please note: the article below may contain spoilers about the most recent season of Bridgerton!
Bridgerton
After the love stories of Daphne and her Simon and Anthony and Kate, the third season of the popular Netflix series focuses on the relationship between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). In addition, the second season of course ended with a terrible argument between Eloise and Penelope, when El gets wind of Penelope’s secret identity. What will happen next between the former best friends?
Lady Whistledown
Although we as viewers now know that Penelope is the one behind the Lady Whistledown alias, it is apparently not the voice of Nicola Coughlan that recites her controversial lyrics.
The well-known Whistledown magazines are read by another, very familiar face. None other than Dame Julie Andrews is the voice of this illustrious character!
Royal role
You might think you’d prefer to put someone like la Andrews in front of the cameras, rather than in a recording studio with a microphone. But we really don’t have to count on an on-screen appearance from the legendary actress, as she revealed last year. When Entertainment Tonight questioned the actress about it, she replied: “No no no, you know who Lady Whistledown is real, so I’m afraid I’ll stay in the background. But I am completely satisfied with that.”
In fact, Julie previously said that she had never met the entire cast! After the second season, she revealed: “Shonda Rhimes and the whole gang are fantastic. It’s a real pleasure and I’m very happy they asked me. But I have never met the company in person.”
“Of course I see them on the show sometimes. But I do all my filming far, far away from them,” the actress continued. As much as we would like to see it, a larger role for Julie is not planned. Oh well, it’s not like the Queen of Genova is waiting for a role in the barrel yet, right?
