From a pandemic to severe weather: there are thousands of factors that can cause wedding planning to need to be adjusted. Even at royal weddings, where tradition and splendor go hand in hand, unforeseen circumstances are not excluded. These royals had to change their wedding plans last minute.
Princess Beatrice
The York princess and her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi had chosen a beautiful spring date for their wedding: May 29, 2020. The big party would be held in the royal chapel of St James Palace and in Buckingham Palace. All plans had to be scrapped due to the corona pandemic, but Princess Beatrice managed to surprise us by getting married two months later in a very intimate ceremony in Windsor. Because the whole plan had to be changed, Beatrice also decided to borrow a dress from grandma and have it altered instead of choosing a new dress. If anyone managed to completely change her wedding day, it’s Bea!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
He himself says he was not invited, the Sussexes say he was too ill to come – anyway, Meghan Markle’s father was not present at the royal wedding in May 2018. Unable to walk to the altar on her father’s arm, Meghan was first escorted from the car by her mother, then walked down the aisle of the church alone and was finally given away by father-in-law Prince Charles.
Princess Eugenie
Just hours before exchanging vows, Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, still had to decide how they would actually get from A to B. The two got married in October, a rather fickle month in terms of weather, and it was only at the last minute that they could decide whether they would be able to travel in an open carriage. Ultimately, on this autumn day in 2018, they opted for a closed carriage. Always handy to have a spare copy in your palace stable!

Prince Charles and Camilla
The then Prince Charles also had to set a new date shortly before his wedding to Camilla. The two were scheduled to marry on April 8, 2005, but the small-scale wedding was postponed a day so that the British Crown Prince could attend Pope John Paul II’s funeral. He had one day to return to Windsor from the Vatican and get ready for the wedding.
Princess Madeleine
Due to a broken engagement, Princess Madeleine of Sweden saw her own royal wedding fall apart in 2010. But there was also the question of whether she would be able to attend that of her brother, Prince Carl Philip, in 2015. At the last minute, the heavily pregnant Madeleine decided to go, but she said she suffered from contractions during the entire ceremony. Two days after the wedding she gave birth to her son, Prince Nicolas.
