Finally!
The time has finally come: from today we can enjoy the final season of The Crown! Of course we don’t mind a bit of royal drama, but if you still have to convince people around you that they should watch The Crown: we have listed five very good reasons.
1. Romances and drama
The sixth and final season, which appears in two parts, is set in the nineties to the early two thousand. In the first episodes you see the blossoming romance between Lady Di and Dodi Fayed. The second part (on display from December 14) shows the love story of Prince Charles and Camilla. Diana’s death is also highlighted and how the family deals with it. We also follow Prince William and see the development of his relationship with Kate.
2. Familiar faces
Good news for fans: Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West return as Princess Diana and Prince Charles and Imelda Staunton once again takes on the role of Queen Elizabeth. Debicki talks about the final season: “It was an enormous challenge to play Diana in her last days. It felt good to me emotionally, I clung to that. But it remains heartbreaking and very charged.” Dominic: “I suspect that Charles is also quite emotional in private circumstances, or at least that’s how I played him.”
3. Kate is coming
Kate Middleton, now better known as the Princess of Wales, makes her appearance this season, played by Meg Bellamy. The actress saw the call for the role via social media, after which she sent an audition tape. It is her first major role, and she certainly has her looks. Ed McVey also makes his debut, as Prince William. Ed only graduated from the Drama Center London two years ago. Sixteen-year-old Rufus Kampa plays William in his younger years.
4. Iconic clothing
When you say The Crown, you say fantastic costumes. This season the styling is once again in the hands of Amy and Sidonie Roberts. Amy: “Of course I look at the photos and information that can be found about the royal family. But I do put my own spin on it, the clothing should not be too pompous and stiff.” We can already reveal that there will be a remake of Lady Di’s iconic red dress, which she wore during a visit to Washington. This was one of the last times she was spotted in public. You will also see a design inspired by the controversial Nazi costume that Prince Harry wore during a friend’s costume party in 2005.
5. Fairytale wedding
The British royal family is reportedly anything but happy that all this drama is being stirred up again. Prince William in particular would have great difficulty with his mother’s death being exploited in this way. To end the tragic story well, the makers end the season with the festive wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla, as if to celebrate the monarchy. The filming took place at the medieval cathedral York Minster. That means fairytale wedding, we can’t wait!
