Fajah Lourens: ‘I no longer worry about the dimples in my buttocks’

‘I actually never enjoyed how tight I felt at the time’

Her body always had to be tighter and her relationships more romantic. But Fajah Lourens now has a different mindset. In the latest Glamial she talks about her new motto, fitgirl image and appearance. “Appearance is certainly important, because I am very vain. For a long time I just didn’t think I was good enough.”

New motto

Only do things that you enjoy. That is the new motto of Fajah Lourens. “There are many things I like, such as my work. But I have let go of the things that I don’t like about my work,” she says in conversation with Glamial. “My main goal is freedom, but when you have a large company, you are tied up in your work. At a certain point I realized that I no longer enjoyed designing the MKBM clothing line (her company My Killer Body Motivation, ed.). So much time is spent on staff and the more staff you have, the less freedom. So I thought: I’ll drop the clothing line and explore my business more in depth,” she shares. “So I came to the conclusion that in four years I will sell Killerbody and inspire people in a different way.”

Fitgirl image

Does she also want to shake off the fitgirl image? “I still love sports and healthy food,” says Fajah. “In 2015 I discovered fitness and sharing my own journey and successes became my success formula. That is authentic and real, because I went through it myself and it was accessible to everyone,” she explains. “But I am now in a phase where I think: I am no longer concerned about the dimples in my buttocks. I think mindset is much more important. So I thought: what can I do with that? And that means once again taking people along on my journey.”

Tight body

This has not made appearance any less important to Fajah. “Appearance is certainly important, because I am very vain. For a long time I just didn’t think I was good enough. I rejected myself, thought I was too fat and focused on things that I found ugly about myself. While there is also so much beauty to look at,” she says. “I used to have to train every day, but I never actually enjoyed how tight I felt at the time,” Fajah looks back. “You always see something that is not sleek enough. Last week I canceled my Pilates class because my body needed rest, while before I would have just forced myself to go. I am much more aware of what my body needs, and less concerned with my ego that wants an even tighter body.”
