No less than 95 percent of its work clothes come from abroad. There is no doubt that Máxima should shop more often in her own country. The only question is: where and with whom? In the Dutch Design for Máxima series we look for Dutch fashion brands for our queen.
Let’s start with a nice bag brand, because in private Máxima is spotted with the most beautiful and nicest designer bags (last week an Hermès), but on the red carpet sobriety is the name of the game. With a red suit the queen carries a red clutch, with a blue trouser suit a blue clutch, and so on. So time for some sparkle! In Hengelo I came across the Bylin label. Owner Linde Van der Poel likes to be inspired by nature and therefore works as sustainably as possible. One design I really like is the Tulip. How Dutch do you want it?
Also nice for a change: a Bylin bag in the shape of a maple leaf.
A brand that I also wish for some royal patronage is Jansen Amsterdam (formerly Juffrouw Jansen). The style is too casual for a state visit, but certainly suitable for an informal work visit.
The Dutch brand Shoeby was recently saved from bankruptcy (due to corona). Royal support would therefore be very welcome. The style of the current collection may be too hip for a queen, but she can always use a houndstooth trouser suit. Especially with prices of 70 euros for a pair of pants.
If she wants to look chic, fashion house Pauw is not a bad idea.
Why the queen doesn’t shop at Oso Couture is beyond me. Achmed Oso’s fashion house sold Natan’s prêt-a-porter for a while and now offers its own couture collections in a similar style. Read: minimalist lines, rich materials. If I were Máxima, I would still be standing at the door today.
