Queen Mary provides the wow factor at the Global Fashion Summit

Queen Mary visited the Copenhagen Edition of the Global Fashion Summit yesterday. And not just a visit, no, she also gave a speech. You really want to see her outfit, especially her beautiful skirt!

Mary has been to the Global Fashion Summit before. She also mentioned that in her speech. I think Mary’s speech is worth posting here in its entirety, precisely because it is about fashion. Please note: the speech has been translated by Google Translate, so will not be error-free ;).

Mary’s speech:

Fifteen years ago I attended the Global Fashion Summit for the first time. In my opening speech I characterized the fashion industry as an industry that reflects and inspires social development. And while the world has changed dramatically since then, this characterization still holds true.

Today, many industries, including the fashion and textile industries, are increasingly focused on sustainability and circularity. By mobilizing fashion leaders and partnerships worldwide, the Global Fashion Agenda is and will continue to be a driving force in the critical development and future-proofing of the industry.

I’m happy to support this year’s call to ‘unlock the next level’. I believe this annual summit plays a key role in accelerating the journey towards a regenerative industry. Visionary partnerships, innovative ideas and concrete examples of sustainable win-win solutions are presented here year after year and inspire stakeholders all over the world.

I look forward to visiting the Innovation Forum soon to learn more about the wonders of seaweed as an alternative to existing fabrics, the latest steps towards textile-to-textile recycling and all the other inspiring examples of planet-positive initiatives that have been launched since last year to arise.

Our planet is beautiful, but vulnerable. We have a responsibility to protect and preserve it, for the sake of our children and future generations, and to ensure that they too can marvel at its beauty and bounty.

As you may know, I am the proud mother of four children, two boys and two girls. Nowadays Isabella and Josephine fit many of my clothes and, to my dismay, shoes. However, the age difference often means that they “wouldn’t want to be caught doing that.” However, whenever they are featured in something of mine, it always puts a smile on my face.

My children are far from the only ones who borrow and exchange clothes, visit vintage shops and flea markets. New clothing is no longer seen as opposed to used clothing. Together with progress in sustainable production, the development of new materials and textiles and the scaling up of textile recycling, this bodes well for future circularity.

The Global Fashion Summit is an important catalyst. With that in mind, I would like to share a saying: “If you can imagine it, you can make it happen.” So let’s all imagine a fashion industry that gives more than it takes from people and the planet.

Thank you!

Fashion Mary

Back to Mary’s own fashion. During her visit to the Global Fashion Summit, Queen Mary is dressed in a burgundy skirt with a special pattern (label: unknown), combined with a wrap-around blouse top in the same color (label: Jesper Hovring). Of course the clothes are not new, she can hardly make that out with such a speech.

Mary often combines the yellow pumps (label: Gianvito Rossi) with certain outfits, for example with black/white or with dark blue. It pimps the whole thing up nicely!
