During this meeting, the two spoke extensively about their special, common hobby.
What do a king and a former footballer have in common? Well, their love for bees, apparently! David Beckham and King Charles met last weekend and had a chat about gardening and beekeeping. Although that was not the direct reason for this rendezvous, of course.
The King’s Foundation
David Beckham visited Charles at Highgrove House, the king’s estate in Gloucestershire. The reason for this visit? David has a new role as ambassador for The King’s Foundation! “I am honored to be an ambassador for The King’s Foundation,” David said on Instagram. “It was inspiring to learn from His Majesty about the foundation’s projects and ambitions during my recent visit to Highgrove Gardens.”
During this day there was enough time to take a look at the king’s estate and speak to various people about the Foundation. For example, we see the former football player standing at the woodworking table, and he also seems to be given an explanation about embroidery.

Beekeeping
David goes on to say that he has developed a strong love for the countryside, which is why he is so enthusiastic about his role as ambassador. “I look forward to supporting the Foundation in their education programs, contributing to young people’s knowledge of nature ❤️,” he writes. He also makes a funny revelation about his meeting with the king: “we also exchanged beekeeping tips! 🐝😂”.
Relationship with the royal family
It is not surprising that David has been selected as the new ambassador of The King’s Foundation. He has had a close relationship with the royal family for years. He gets along well with William and Harry (partly thanks to their love of football), and he attended both of their weddings. But he also met the late Queen Elizabeth several times. A while ago, the former footballer even revealed: “I get goosebumps when I drive through that gate of Buckingham Palace. It remains a special experience every time.” Aaawh!
