The pollen season has arrived again. Do you always suffer from hay fever? These tips will help you survive this period.
1. Fresh outfit against hay fever
Take off your shoes and clothes immediately when you get inside and put on fresh clothes as quickly as possible. If you don’t do this, you will spread the pollen throughout the house, the same pollen you are allergic to. This goes on the couch, on chairs and in the rug. Taking a shower in the evening and washing your hair also helps prevent pollen from being carried to your bed. This way you wake up as fresh as possible and limit hay fever symptoms.
2. Make strategic plans
Of course, you can’t lock yourself away until pollen season is over, and you’ll have to leave the house every now and then (if not every day). Make sure you are aware of the current pollen concentration: this is often from noon until around five o’clock. Therefore, make strategic plans and make sure you get outside in the morning or evening. You might even become a morning person!
3. Don’t cuddle skin animals
Not only your clothing and hair, but also your pet’s fur retains a lot of pollen and allergens. If your dear four-legged friend has been outside, you better give him a wash. and dry thoroughly. Don’t feel like experiencing the screeching cat or the jumping dog every time? Then you may have to go through a hay fever season without hugs.
4. Physiological water
Your stuffy nose is of course very annoying, but nasal spray is not always the best option. Especially if you remember that you can only use the spray for a few days, and that the skin in your nose will become dry and irritated. By rinsing your nose with a physiological serum, a saline solution in water, you can enjoy an unclogged nose without damaging it. Tip: fill an old bottle of nasal spray with this water.
5. Exercise at home
When you look at the sun, we understand that you would like to do something outside. Whether it’s walking, cycling or jogging: pollen is outside anyway, and you will definitely suffer from hay fever. In addition, the pollen can cause you to inhale and exhale heavily and accelerate your heart rate, which only makes the allergic reaction worse. Find a fun workout at home, or at least make sure the sport you practice is indoors. This way you keep moving without harming your health.
