How recognizable and irritating: yellow earwax on your earplugs. Not that fresh, but unfortunately there is little you can do to prevent it. You just have earwax in your ear. Fortunately, you can easily clean your earplugs! This can be done very quickly with these tips.
Ear-waxy
Apple recommends cleaning your AirPods at least once a week, just to be sure. This prevents dirt from piling up. Especially if the sound from the earbuds sounds dull and the buds start to turn yellow. it’s time for a cleaning.
Supplies
For this minor cleaning you will need toothpicks, (microfiber) cloths, 70% alcohol, cotton swabs, or possibly a dry, old toothbrush. Make sure that you brush carefully with the dry toothbrush so that the earwax does not disappear further into the speakers. Point the earphones with the speakers towards the ground while you brush. This way the dirt will fall out.
To clean
As a first step, apply a little alcohol to the cotton swab. Make sure the cotton swab is not too moist. Then rub the cotton swab over the ears. Let them air dry.
Clean your AirPods case with a (microfiber) cloth. You can again use a cotton swab with alcohol for the inside. Allow the case (opened) to air dry.
AirPods Pro
The cleaning process for the AirPods Pro is slightly different. This version has a silicone attachment that you push into your ear canal. Because it sits deeper in your ear and is made of silicone, it can get extra dirty.
Remove the silicone caps and wash them with water. Use a little soap, but try to brush it with your fingers first. After washing, you can dry the rubbers with a clean towel and click them back again. You’re done!
