When Prince Harry was in his mother country earlier this month, a visit to his sick father was not forthcoming.
Prince Harry spent a few days in Great Britain earlier this month, but a visit to his sick father was not forthcoming. British media quickly wrote that King Charles would be ‘too busy’ to see his son. However, it now appears to be a little different. The reunion between the two would not have taken place for security reasons.
Hope for reconciliation
When it became known at the beginning of this year that Charles was suffering from cancer, many royalty watchers saw it as an opportunity for him and Harry to get closer again. Especially when it emerged that the prince had rushed to London to visit his father, Charles’ diagnosis was seen as a unifying element that would improve the relationship between father and son. However, when it turned out that Harry was already outside the palace gates after a conversation of less than half an hour, those expectations were quickly adjusted again.
No time
Earlier this month it became clear again that the relationship between Harry and Charles is still nothing to write home about, and that Charles’ diagnosis apparently has no positive influence on this. Harry visited his motherland to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. A nice moment to spend some time with Charles, you would think. But no: the media wrote that a visit to his father was not an option, because Charles reportedly had no place in his agenda. Ouch…
Real reason
However, it now appears that the monarch did indeed agree to Harry’s request and more is coming out through the British press about the real reason why a reunion between the two failed to materialize. Contrary to previous reports that Charles was too busy for a meeting, it now appears to be Harry himself who ensured that this did not take place.
King Charles is said to have offered his son to stay in one of his royal residences, but without security, writes The Telegraph. Harry would not have wanted to take up the offer because he was concerned about his safety. He therefore decided to decline the offer due to safety reasons and ended up staying in a hotel.
The British media call this remarkable, because according to them, royal residences are among the best protected buildings in Great Britain, with armed officers standing at the gates… Conclusion? The feud is still in full swing.
