Grace Kelly’s extraordinary life story has a tragic ending. Yet she left behind a lot of beautiful things, including her six granddaughters. But who are these women who can call Princess Gracia their grandmother?
Grimaldi ladies
What started as a fairy tale – beautiful movie star becomes a real princess – unfortunately did not have a happy ending. Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco, died in a car accident in 1982 and never knew any of her grandchildren. Yet those grandchildren are constantly compared to their world-famous grandmother, especially her six granddaughters. Who are these Grimaldi ladies again?
Charlotte Casiraghi
Princess Grace’s eldest granddaughter was born in 1986. Charlotte Marie Pomeline Casiraghi is the eldest daughter of Princess Caroline and her second husband, Stefano Casiraghi. As the eleventh in line to the throne, she knows that she cannot rely solely on royal duties, so she works, relatively out of the spotlight, as a journalist and film producer. So she has that link with the film world in common with her famous grandmother. As a true Grimaldi granddaughter, she is also no stranger to the fashion world (she modeled for Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, among others). Charlotte married Dimitri Rassam in 2019, with whom she has son Balthazar (2018). She also has a son, Raphaël (2013), from a previous relationship. On the rare occasions when she appears in public, it is usually a true fashion party, just like we were used to with Grandma Grace.
Jazmin Grace Grimaldi
Everything indicates that she would have loved to be an actress and a princess, just like the grandmother after whom she was named. But unfortunately for Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, as the illegitimate daughter of Prince Albert, she did not get a prominent place in the principality. Jazmin (1992) therefore has to do it on his own. She grew up in America, where she also wants to get her acting career off the ground, although she occasionally visits her father in the palace of Monaco. As a royal wannabe, she also has her own foundation, The Jazmin Fund, through which she helps children in Fiji in the areas of education, health and development. Now all you have to do is hook a prince and the circle will be complete!
Pauline Ducruet
Pauline Grace Maguy Ducruet certainly did not have a typical royal upbringing, as a child who traveled with her mother in a circus, but she has now completely found her place in Monaco. Although the eldest daughter of Princess Stéphanie and her bodyguard Daniel Ducruet now lives in New York, where she works as a fashion designer and influencer, she has set up her own award in Monaco (for which she is also the ambassador). Pauline likes to hop from fashion week to fashion week while working on her own label and putting vloggers and bloggers in the spotlight.
Camille Gottlieb
The second daughter of Princess Stéphanie (and her other bodyguard, Jean Gottlieb), is also known as an influencer: with nice snapshots on Instagram, Camille Marie Kelly Gottlieb receives many likes and comparisons with grandmother Grace Kelly. Like her niece Jazmin, she has no claim to the throne because her parents were never married. However, she is present at royal occasions, she sometimes accompanies the Grimaldi twins and she also has her own charity organization. Furthermore, it always remains a bit unclear what Camille does for a living. All-round royal and influencer, we think her resume sounds something like this.
Princess Alexandra of Hanover
Her Royal Highness Alexandra Charlotte Ulrike Maryam Virginia, Princess of Hanover, Princess of Braunschweig (1999), is one of the few granddaughters of Grace Kelly to have a royal title, although as you can see she does not owe it to her Monegasque mother. Princess Alexandra is the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco and Prince Ernst August of Hanover, and therefore has blue blood from both sides. She is thirteenth in the line of succession to the throne and also had a place in the British throne through her father, until she decided to convert to Catholicism (still a no-go among the British royals). We know that she is a fantastic figure skater, is crazy about Chanel, has a crush on her boyfriend and later wants to do ‘something with art or fashion’. As befits a granddaughter of Grace.
Princess Gabriella of Monaco
Princess Grace’s youngest granddaughter is nine-year-old Gabriella Thérèse Marie Grimaldi, Princess of Monaco, Countess of Carladès (2014). Although she is the eldest legal daughter of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene (she was born two minutes before her twin brother Jacques), she is not the next in line to the throne. Monaco still has the old-fashioned rule that boys go first in line, so it will be Prince Jacques who will rule the principality in the future. Although Princess Gabriella is also being trained to be a hard-working royal. Would you like to attend working visits? Planting trees for charity? A diplomatic trip abroad? At the age of nine, Princess Gabriella has already done it all. And then she is already a real fashion princess, like all of Grace’s other granddaughters. One to watch!
