A sweet surprise for the Swedish Queen!
Today marks exactly 80 years since the Swedish Queen Silvia was born. And of course that should be celebrated! For example, the Swedish court already shared a beautiful portrait photo of the queen, but it is ultimately Silvia’s grandchildren who provide the (proverbial) crown on the special day.
Birthday
On December 23, 1943, little Silvia Renate Sommerlath was born in Heidelberg. The young lady goes to school and trains to become an interpreter – but eventually ends up working in the marketing team for the city of Munich. So in 1972 she meets then-Crown Prince Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, and the rest is history, as the Swedes say.
Silvia has now served many years as consort of the Swedish monarch, and as is the case with a royal’s eightieth birthday, Swedes reflect extensively on the festive occasion.
The Swedish kungahuset already shared this beautiful photo of the eighty-year-old lady:

Surprise
But guess what? Silvia’s grandchildren also wanted to celebrate their grandmother’s birthday in a very special way. This morning, the Swedes shared this sweet video of the youngest generation of royals, who, wearing party hats and horns, prepared a large cake for their grandmother. With eighty candles and the monogram of the Swedish queen, of course.

The surprise produces sweet scenes: when she arrives, she is clearly impressed by her grandchildren, and together they put their best foot forward to blow out the eighty candles – except for the young Prince Julien, as the images show. He was too busy with his party horn to worry about all those candles.
In any case, it looks like a very successful birthday party. After the surprise and blowing out the candles, you can see how Silvia is surrounded by her grandkids enjoying a piece of cake and a drink – and Julien’s honking skills, which steal the show a bit.
Congratulations also on behalf of Glamial, Your Highness!
