Whether you like to go to bed in thick woolen pajamas, or sleep with as few layers as possible: everyone has their (crazy) preferences when it comes to a good night’s sleep. What works for one person is a no-no for another. But nowadays we see many advantages when it comes to sleeping… without underpants!
Benefits of sleeping without underwear
The idea may seem a bit unnatural, but there are apparently a lot of advantages to sleeping fully naked. Yep, that also means your underwear. Let it air out! We have listed the benefits for you.
Prevent fungal infections
One of the biggest reasons why many people sleep without underwear is to avoid yeast infections. Underpants made of synthetic fabric are not airy and can quickly become damp. You guessed it: it’s the perfect place for bacteria to settle down. This is a lot less pleasant for you, because it can lead to a real fungal infection. Of course, this does not mean that you are doomed to get an infection if you do wear underpants, but better safe than sorry, perhaps?
Reduced chance of a bladder infection
Another reason why sleeping without underwear might be a good idea is because of the reduced risk of bladder infections. If you visit the toilet in the evening or just before going to bed, bacteria could remain in your underpants. These bacteria can reach the urinary tract at night, which could cause a bladder infection. The same as with the fungal infection applies: sleeping with underwear does not guarantee that you will get a bladder infection.
Better air circulation
In other words, it’s good to get some fresh air down under. Sleeping without underwear ensures better air circulation, which means you sweat less, for example.
Good for sensitive skin
Do you sometimes have stretch marks from irritating underwear when you sleep? Then it can also be a smart idea to sleep without underwear. It may be that the skin in your intimate zone is a bit more sensitive, so that it actually benefits much more from sleeping naked. Yay, no more irritated skin!
