Ouch!
The fact that the ties between Charles and Harry are not exactly warm is nothing new on the horizon. Yet this is now becoming painfully clear again. Shortly after Charles indicated that he was ‘too busy’ to meet Harry today, Buckingham Palace also announced that the king would take away a military title from his youngest son and give it to William.
Bad relationship
We doubt whether the relationship between King Charles and Prince Harry has ever been good since Harry’s adult life, but in any case it has not improved in recent years. The departure of Harry and his family to the United States has had a major impact on the Royal Family, not to mention the documentary and memoir filled with royal family criticism that the prince has released into the world.
Hope for reconciliation
When it became known at the beginning of this year that Charles was suffering from cancer, many royalty watchers saw it as an opportunity for him and Harry to get closer again. Especially when it emerged that the prince had rushed to London to visit his father, Charles’ diagnosis was seen as a unifying element that would improve the relationship between father and son. However, when it turned out that Harry was already outside the palace gates after a conversation of less than half an hour, those expectations were quickly adjusted again.
No time
Now it is once again painfully clear that the relationship between Harry and Charles is still nothing to write home about, and that Charles’ diagnosis apparently has no positive influence on this either. Harry is currently in his home country to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. A nice moment to spend some time with Charles, you would think. But no: a spokesperson for the prince has announced that a visit to his father is not an option, because Charles reportedly has no place in his agenda. Ouch…
Title given away
What makes things even more painful is that just hours after it became clear that Charles did not have time to meet his youngest son, Buckingham Palace also announced that Harry would lose a military title. The prince is currently Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, but from May 13 that title will go to William.
So if we still had hope for reconciliation somewhere, that has now really disappeared…
