This way you protect your glamorous hairstyle against wind and weather!
The beautiful autumn season is now in full swing, but that also means that your glamorous hairstyle needs extra good care. Your long locks have to endure a lot due to the rain, dry air and cold wind. It can result in dull and lifeless hair – and that is of course the last thing we want. Do you also want to have radiant, long locks in the fall? With these tips you can protect your hairdo for autumn and winter.
1. Use shampoo less often
While you may think it makes sense to wash your hair regularly, too much shampoo can actually be counterproductive. If you notice that you are experiencing scalp problems – such as an itchy and flaky scalp – it certainly wouldn’t hurt to switch to a light shampoo.
2. Switch to an oil-based moisturizer
If the air feels dry, there is a good chance that your hair will crack. This applies to every type of hair, and there is only one way to combat it: extra moisture. “Natural, curly, wavy, relaxed and coiled hair is sensitive to cold weather, making it prone to brittle texture, breakage and split ends,” Phytospecific expert Ron Williams explains to Self. He says an oil-based moisturizer works best for this.
3. Try to keep hair moisturized weekly
Weekly hair treatments are extremely important in cold and rainy weather, because lost moisture needs to be replaced. That is why it is advisable to use a good conditioner. “Once a week you should care for your hair: apply the conditioner and leave it on for 30 minutes to allow moisture to penetrate the hair shaft,” advises hair expert James Corbett.
4. Keep away from heat
Your hair may fall differently if it receives better care. A quick style with the hair straightener may be tempting, but it is better not to do that. “Limit the amount of chemicals you apply to the hair, which will improve moisture levels and reduce breakage,” Williams advises.
5. Never go outside with damp hair
Have you just washed your hair and do you have to leave the house immediately? Corbett warns never to go outside with wet hair. He explains: “Anything cold expands and that’s what can happen to your wet hair shaft in cold weather, putting you at risk of breaking your hair and causing the color to fade more quickly.” So it definitely pays to dry your hair thoroughly before going outside.
