Now that autumn is in full swing, we like to wear a nice thick sweater. This is great to hide in on cold days. Unfortunately, there is also one disadvantage: they often become static. Are you done with all that crackling? This is how you get rid of it.
Static sweaters: how does this arise?
Sometimes there is nothing wrong and other times you can hear your sweater crackling when you put it on. But how is that possible? A static sweater is caused by different materials rubbing against each other. This causes electrons to charge and makes your sweater static. This is most common with wool and polyester materials. It is therefore not surprising that you suffer from this a lot in the winter.
Looking for metal
You’ve probably heard of having to hold your car door against a lamppost if you’re struck by lightning. This causes the static charge to disappear. You can also easily apply this same trick to your clothing. Hold your sweater against a metal object and the charge will be removed. Also a useful tip: put a safety pin in your breast pocket, for example. Just as effective.
Humidity
Humidity is the biggest enemy of static electrons. You can easily solve your static sweater by increasing the humidity. Using an air freshener or room spray is enough. You can also spray some water on your sweater with a plant sprayer.
Wash your sweater
Do you have one of those sweaters that is always static? Then throw it in the washing machine with a dash of vinegar and a ball of aluminum foil. This solves the problem immediately. Then let the sweater dry naturally and it will no longer bother you.
