Many viewers will probably have missed the little faux pas. At the awards ceremony, De Niro appeared to mistakenly believe he had won the award, which ultimately went to Downey. The wrong one Robert got up – unpleasant!
When Downey’s name was announced, it seemed to take De Niro a moment to realize he wasn’t the winner – he was momentarily taken aback. The actor had already stood up, but then quickly sat down again. His competitor seemed to take the misunderstanding with humor. “Nothing’s better than losing,” the Marvel star laughed, according to TMZ, quickly emphasizing that he was just making a joke. The “Taxi Driver” actor did not comment on the embarrassing misunderstanding.
Robert Downey Jr was honored for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss, a member of the United States Atomic Energy Commission, in the hit film “Oppenheimer.” The film was awarded a total of five trophies.
