Heavy news from Spain: Queen Sofía has been admitted to hospital. According to Spanish media, King Felipe’s mother is said to have a urinary tract infection.
Urinary tract infection
The Spanish court has not yet released an official statement, but several Spanish newspapers write that Sofía has been admitted to a hospital in Madrid. News agency EFE, among others, reports that the queen is said to be suffering from a urinary tract infection. She is said to be making rapid progress.
In public
Last Monday, Sofía appeared in public. She then attended a memorial service with her husband Juan Carlos, son Felipe and daughter-in-law Queen Letizia.
Unhappy
We know that Sofía has not exactly had a happy life. As Queen of Spain, she did not have much say in her life between 1975 and 2014. Sofia had the thankless role of having to do everything for the greater honor and glory of her husband and having to stand with a steely smile at the unfaithful cross-marcher.
Blossomed
However, in the past decade, Sofía seems to have completely blossomed. With a man who spends his (ultra-luxury) exile in Dubai, Sofía has been able to show more and more of herself in Spain and the surrounding area. She is fully committed to all kinds of charities and finds a good excuse here and there to stroll like a real glamor queen.
As a former queen, Sofia lives with her four-year-younger sister Princess Irene, a few Yorkies and a few cats in her own wing of the Zarzuela Palace. And while Juan Carlos has largely disappeared from view – partly for health reasons, partly due to lack of popularity – Felipe still frequently involves his mother in royal events. Which feels a bit like reparation for everything she has had to swallow.
Anyway: for now we mainly hope that Sofía will be back on track soon. Que te mejores pronto!
