Brr…A white Easter for the Swedish royals!
On Easter Sunday we were able to get a taste of the spring weather here in the Netherlands, as the first rays of sunshine came through. In Scandinavia this is still a long way off; it is still quite cold and the area is covered with a good layer of snow. In Sweden, the royals took advantage of a winter walk and shared the cutest photos on Instagram, while the Danish royal family enjoyed a holiday and Queen Margrethe attended an Easter mass.
Easter in Sweden
While the British royals spent Easter Sunday with an Easter Mass at St George’s Chapel, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden decided to spend their Easter differently. They enjoyed a wonderful walk through the snow in white Sweden. The king and queen shared a cute photo of the two of them on Instagram, with the caption: “Happy Easter from Jämtland!”

The royal couple’s son, Prince Carl Philip, also shared two photos with Princess Sofia on their Instagram with the caption: “Happy Easter!” Presumably they spent Easter with Carl Gustaf and Silvia in Jämtland, but this has not been officially confirmed. Unfortunately, no snapshot of the two appeared on Instagram and we have to make do with these two photos.

Easter for the Danish royals
While the Swedish royals enjoyed the winter weather, Queen Margrethe of Denmark spent Easter a little differently. Easter Sunday looked a bit more like that of the British royal family. Margrethe attended an Easter mass in Aarhus Cathedral. She stood in for her son, King Frederik, for a few days.
Holidays
King Frederik and his family are currently on holiday abroad. You might then expect a first for Christian, who as an adult crown prince can now also act as regent. Anyway, because the young crown prince was on holiday, this was not an issue. Fortunately, Queen Margrethe was ready and stood in for King Frederik.
Her arrival at the church was “much quieter and more discreet” than previous years, as she is no longer queen. According to the Danish media, the queen looked more like ‘an ordinary churchgoer’ and there was no one waiting for her at the door.
