1. Watch your diet

If you want to strengthen your nails, it is important to pay attention to your diet. A number of foods ensure that your nails become stronger. Consider, for example, protein, antioxidants, zinc and calcium. Your body converts protein into keratin and your body also needs zinc to produce keratin. If your body does not get enough of this, your nails will become weaker and your hair will fall out more quickly. In addition, antioxidants protect your body against free radicals and calcium ensures healthy nails.

Nowadays we see many nutritional supplements on the market that promise long locks, radiant skin or healthy nails. These gummies are full of vitamins that make your nails stronger. You can take nutritional supplements if you do not consume enough of the above foods. Keep in mind that a healthy and balanced diet is extremely important, so if in doubt, seek advice from a doctor.

2. Nail biting and skin pulling: stop it

Biting your nails out of nerves? You better stop doing that. Nail biting makes your nails thinner and they quickly tear off, making it difficult for them to repair. It is also better to stay away from the skin around your nails. Loose skin makes your nails more vulnerable and looks unkempt.

3. Care for your cuticles and hands

If you suffer from skin around your nails or dry cuticles, we recommend using a nourishing cuticle oil. Pampering your hands and cuticles with a nourishing hand cream also works wonders. After all, strong cuticles will grow stronger nails.

4. Avoid products with chemicals

Bleach, harsh soaps, alcohol gels and dishwashing liquids can cause your nails to lose their strength. Therefore, only use mild soap or rubber gloves when cleaning or washing dishes.

5. Nail polish and its removal

We understand better than anyone how nice it is to leave the nail salon with perfectly painted nails, but it is still better to stop doing this if you want to strengthen your natural nails. If you still want painted nails, it is best to choose a nail polish with caring ingredients.

Give your nails a regular break from nail polish to allow them to recover optimally and avoid acetone when removing your nail polish. Acetone not only removes the nail polish, but also the natural oils from your nails. This causes them to dry out, become brittle and break down more quickly. Instead of acetone, you can use a nail polish remover without acetone.

6. Remove gel nail polish

Some of us are also guilty of picking off the gel nail polish, but this is anything but a good idea. By doing this you also remove the top layer of your nails and they become brittle, thin and fragile. If you choose to use gel nail polish, it is best to have it removed by a professional.
