No matter how cold it is: why you shouldn’t sleep with the heating on

In this terrible cold we prefer to lie in bed with ten pajamas, six hot water bottles and the heating on. However, it is better not to do the latter for an interesting reason. Why shouldn’t you sleep with the heating on? As unfortunate as it is, we looked into it for you.

Heating on while sleeping

We know, it’s super tempting to leave the heating on at night. Not only is it bad for your bank account, it is also not smart to do this for another, physical reason. Olivia Thorpe, the founder of the skincare brand Vanderohe explains it for you.

Dehydrated skin

The reason you shouldn’t sleep with your heating on has everything to do with your skin and the problems the heating causes. In winter your skin is already a lot drier and the heating is another culprit. Olivia Thorpe says: “It’s really our lifestyle that changes with the season, not our skin itself. As well as less exercise and less healthy eating, we’re also exposed to drying central heating – and the colder it gets outside, the worse it gets. .” Oops, that means sleeping with extra pajamas tonight…

Moisture content in the house

In winter you will also see the moisture content in your home decrease. That’s not great for your skin either. For example, a skin or beginning of eczema can become a lot worse due to the low moisture content in your home. What you can do to boost the moisture level is to purchase a humidifier.

Now, having the heating on is of course not a bad thing, because you shouldn’t be cold either. It may be better to at least turn off the heating at night. This way you at least sleep in healthy conditions.

Lubricate, lubricate and lubricate again

Do you notice that, no matter what, your skin becomes very dry in winter. Then we recommend applying plenty of moisturizing creams. Your skin actually needs an extra layer of protection in the cold – so you can at least turn on the heating during the day with peace of mind.
