They were very worried about his health. Matthias Reim (66) turned out to be a celebrated music star in the 90s. With the song “Damn I Love You,” the singer scored a mega hit that has now become an integral part of every pop party. In recent years, however, the musician has repeatedly had to cancel concerts to concentrate on his poor health. Then in 2015 he became seriously ill. Now Matthias and his wife Christin remember the dark times.
“Within days he just lost more and more, he became incredibly thin,” reveals Christin in the documentary “Matthias Reim – My Life is Rock’n’Roll”. After he “more or less crawled to the hospital,” he was diagnosed with severe myocarditis. At that time, his heart was only working at 20 percent capacity – it was unclear at the time whether he would ever be on stage again. But the pop star fought back: “He stood up and said, I want to live. I want to live with my wife, I want to live with my children and I want to make music with my fans.”
In 2022, the “Idiot” interpreter suffered from health problems again: Due to burnout, he had to cancel all of his upcoming concerts in the middle of the year: “I felt like a loser,” Matthias admitted to Bild. His wife was very worried about her loved one at the time: “I’ve never seen him like that before.”
