We have been big fans of jeans for years. Strangely enough, we don’t actually know exactly how to best care for our denim friends. Do you wash your pants after wearing them a few times? Or at the first small spot? Wrong! We tell you how it should be done.
Why not wash jeans too often?
After two wears, the average pair of jeans no longer passes the ‘sniff test’. So it goes straight into the washing machine. It comes out nice and fresh and fruity and – not to forget – nice and firm. However, this is not the right approach to keep your pants beautiful in the long term.
Jeans connoisseurs already knew: jeans should be washed as little as possible. Preferably even… never! The hot foam bath causes your jeans to quickly lose their color. The fabric also starts to sag more and more. What a waste of your hours of searching for the perfect jeans, don’t you think?!
How often to wash jeans?
How often should you wash jeans? After wearing it four to five times, it can be thrown in the laundry basket. It is also not necessary to put newly purchased jeans in the wash before wearing them. Before the pants reach the store, they have already been washed by the manufacturer.
3 x solutions against bad odors
So what to do? Nobody wants to spend weeks with their knees together in dirty jeans. There are some tricks to freshen up your jeans without having to put them in the washing machine.
Airing
Nice and simple, but effective. Do your jeans smell a bit musty? Let it flutter in the open air for half a day and it will smell fresh again.
Freeze
Place your jeans in a pillowcase or plastic bag in the freezer overnight. The cold kills a lot of stinky bacteria and prevents new ones from growing. This way it can last for a few days.
Cold hand wash
Is there a stain in your jeans or is the smell no longer noticeable after a few wears? Prepare a basin with cold water and some mild soap. Rinse your jeans clean (inside out) in this. Rub the stain and the cross additionally. Not too hard, that will cause the color to fade faster. Let your pants dry flat to keep the fit as best as possible.
In short: Wash your jeans after four to five wears and air them out in between. This also saves water costs and is better for the environment. Win win.
