Lil Kleine gives Renze’s first TV interview in two years: “doesn’t have to be an ideal son-in-law”

After a long absence, Lil Kleine is slowly returning to showbiz. Although he was never really away from the media, because it has been a lot about him in recent years. The abuse case surrounding the rapper and his ex Jaimie Vaes cannot have escaped anyone’s notice. He spoke candidly about this and his current drinking and drug use for the first time on TV at Renze on Monday evening.

Lil Kleine at talk show Renze

Jorik Scholten, better known as rapper Lil Kleine, will do an interview on TV for the first time in two years on the talk show Renze on Monday evening. Of course he talks about his documentary, which was recently released on the streaming service Amazon Prime. In addition, he also says he wants to “take responsibility” for his actions. As many know, an investigation is currently underway into the abuse of Jaimie Vaes, Lil Kleine’s ex. She accuses him of pushing her head between the car door. The investigation has been going on for a while now and has been toned down somewhat by the Public Prosecution Service. They no longer call it ‘serious assault’, but ‘assault’.

Toxic relationship

During the two years that Lil Kleine did not appear in front of a camera, a lot was said and written about him. And now he shares his opinion about everything surrounding the case with presenter Renze Klamer for the first time. Something he says he doesn’t do, to get people on his side again. “It’s not that we made the documentary in the hope that everyone will say: Oh, what a sweet boy he is and I understand him,” he says. He does know that he is not a “bad person through and through”. “That my heart is in the right place. You would like to show that,” says Lil Kleine.

In the documentary we see Lil Kleine’s reaction to the abuse for the first time. He indicates that it is his fault, but: “It can happen, especially in the relationship we were in.” At the talk show table he explains what he means here. At the time he was in a toxic relationship with Jaimie, in which drugs and alcohol were involved on both sides. “Then bad things quickly happen,” he says. Although he does say that perhaps he should not have ‘let it get to this point’: “You should actually just walk away at such a moment.” He does state that he pulled Jaimie out of the car alone. According to Lil Kleine, her head never got between the car door.

Regret actions

In any case, he regrets his actions, he tells Renze again. “I would like my son [Lio, red.] know that I regret that,” he says. Although he calls it ‘obvious’ that he is not proud of his actions. The documentary shows that his bad behavior mainly arose when he was under the influence was addicted to alcohol and drugs, and he worked on these addictions in a rehab clinic in Thailand.

Although the addictions are not completely gone yet. He also has regular substance checks with the probation service. He has sworn off drugs, but he still has a drink every now and then. And according to Lil Kleine, he is playing with fire: “When you drink a drink, you are more likely to think about using it.” Fortunately for him, drugs have remained out of his life so far. “It’s up to me not to do that, right?” he still says about that. A viewer on social media channel X shows some compassion for Lil Kleine. According to him, he is still not completely clean. As a result, he seems to struggle with himself during the interview:

Not completely clean

Former newsreader Roelof Hemmen also talks about the fact that Lil Kleine is not completely clean. They talk about the ’12-step plan’ from rehab. Lil Kleine indicates that he indeed did not finish this. He has reached step six, which is actually just before the important step of getting clean. Although he says he is not ready to finish it yet. “I don’t know if I’d enjoy going out and not having a drink,” he says. He doesn’t necessarily care either, if he’s still known as a bad boy. “I don’t have to become the ideal son-in-law. I just want to remain myself,” says Lil Kleine. He would be lying if he said he was quitting alcohol.

Hopefully it will help him, among other things, to have contact with his son Lio again. Lil Kleine and Jaimie co-parent their son, so they both see him (and each other) regularly.
