Fortunately, the royal love story had a happy ending.
For many years, Prince William and Princess Kate have been the shining example of a strong royal relationship. But that wasn’t always the case – the two split for a short time in 2007. And Wills reportedly didn’t have it easy then.
Short break
“We were both very young. We were at university, we were trying to discover ourselves,” Prince William said in his engagement interview about the brief break with Kate in 2007. Although the two seemed happy together for years, a marriage proposal did not materialize and at one point even became the news. that the two lovebirds no longer saw each other. “We had to give each other space and in the end that was only better.”
During that break – which fortunately turned out to be short-lived – Kate was seen several times at the side of one Henry Ropner. A romance that Prince William would have had a very difficult time with.
Former classmate
Henry was no stranger to William: they went to Eton College together and according to some rumors Wills had had an affair with his classmate’s ex, leaving the two as ‘rivals’. Because as a future crown prince you can also face formidable competition. Henry was tall, handsome, and very wealthy, with the added bonus that the best man had no paparazzi at his doorstep.
Prince William and Sir Henry may differ slightly in character, but they certainly had the blonde locks, which the Princess of Wales reportedly fell for, in common.

Happily married
Although Kate and Henry were seen together in London’s nightlife, no serious relationship blossomed. The somewhat jealous William decided to give his royal love story a happy ending and couldn’t get his student sweetheart Kate out of his mind. In 2011, the royal wedding finally took place. And Henry Ropner also tied the knot with his great love a few months after the Waleses.
Sir Henry now lives with his family – four children, a dog and his wife Natasha Sinclair – on a grand estate in Yorkshire. Not all that different from the family life of his former rival. All’s well that ends well!
