Since the beginning of 2018, he has finally changed: when it is cold and/or rainy, the king wears a coat. What can he choose from?
He is not a fashion king, nor a dandy. It will probably not surprise you that there is no range of cloaks in the king’s closet. The most popular is the gray-green cloak that also appeared today (photo right). The design has a dark, water-repellent lining with a zipper and a high collar. The wool top layer has three single buttons, lapels and two flap pockets at hip height. Does anyone perhaps recognize the label?
(PS. looks like the king has lost some wild hair as well as some weight. It suits him!)
In Slovakia (March 2023) the jacket was worn without the (loose) lining.
Coat number two is also made of wool, but very dark blue, almost black. The classic design has a wide lapel collar, a double row of buttons and flap pockets.
The cloak has been around for quite some time. He also went on a trip to Germany in February 2017.
He also served during Belgium’s state visit to the Netherlands (2016).
On Remembrance Sunday, November 2015:
And then there is also a coat that I allow him to ritually burn. Maybe there are some detectives who also wear the barbour design, but partly because of the fluttering front panels he reminds me of a pencil peddler. Excusez moi, Your Majesty.
Pssst, don’t tell anyone: it is a design by the German label Wellington or Billmore.
And then there are also some discarded jackets. A dark blue design with brown leather accents. Given the lines, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is German/Austrian made.
Also retired: a green winter coat with green buttons.
