In the podcast The Bigger Picture, Véras Fawaz, the director of Europapa, talks about his collaboration with Joost Klein. And yes, that was anything but smooth. According to Véras, Joost Klein attacked an employee several times during the recordings. Drama!
Friendship with arguments
Véras and Joost Klein have been friends for years, but that does not mean that there are never any problems. “Joost sometimes finds it really difficult to deal with people. He shouted at my assistant a few times,” Véras tells RTL Boulevard. Despite the arguments and stress, Joost ultimately liked the clip. “A few hours before the clip came out, he finally said he liked it. Before that it was just: this sucks, I don’t feel it, I’m not releasing it.”
Struggles at Europapa
Making the clip was a big job for Véras. “It took me a month and a half and I didn’t make a cent. Making a music video only costs money, and you have to see the value of the people who work for you. You can’t shout at an assistant who works for zero euros set,” he explains. He also made this clear to Joost Klein.
Surprises afterwards
Joost Klein had another surprise: he suddenly wanted to add the text ‘from me to my parents’ at the end of the clip, against the agreement. “I really don’t think he did that behind my back. But that’s what makes Joost so good. His control freak behavior is both his strength and his weakness. It sometimes makes working together really difficult, and anyone who knows him can do that.” knows to confirm,” says Véras.
More fuss about Joost Klein
Joost came into controversy after he was the first Eurovision Song Contest participant ever to be disqualified. This happened after an incident in which Joost allegedly made a threatening gesture towards a camera woman. The Swedish Public Prosecution Service is still investigating the case. There is no hearing date yet, because witnesses in the Netherlands have yet to be heard. Joost’s lawyer looks at the outcome of the investigation with a positive feeling. “I’m sure if the police do a proper investigation, he won’t be prosecuted.”
F*ck Eurovision
Last week Joost gave his very first concert abroad and it was an instant hit. The singer made himself heard in faraway Vancouver. In the middle of his performance he lashed out at the Eurovision Song Contest. From the stage he shouted “fuck Eurovision” at the top of his voice and then started headbanging wildly to the music playing in the background. The audience went wild and Joost once again proved that he also has many fans far beyond the border.
