Today was a crucial day in court. Not only was it judgment day for Ali B, the long-awaited trial over the murder of Peter R de Vries also took place today. The three main suspects were ultimately given prison sentences of only 28 years. This despite the fact that a life sentence had been demanded.
Prison sentences in the murder case of Peter R. de Vries
Krystian M. received 26 years in prison due to a previous sentence, otherwise he would have received 30 years according to the court. Delano G. and Kamil E. both received a prison sentence of 28 years. The court emphasized that the murder of De Vries had “caused a wave of consternation throughout the country” and that the convicts played a nefarious role in the preparation and/or execution of the murder. “The legal order is seriously shocked by the murder,” the court said.
The murder broker
Delano G. is accused of shooting De Vries on July 6, 2021. The crime reporter was shot while walking to his car after a broadcast at RTL Boulevard. “The court finds it staggering how Delano G. shot him dead without hesitation in broad daylight, despite bystanders,” the judges said. Kamil E. received help from Delano and is accused of pointing out the location and driving the getaway car. Krystian M. is regarded as a ‘murder broker’ who organized and directed everything.
Accomplices
Accomplices Gerower M. and Erickson O., who filmed the attack and distributed the images, were each sentenced to ten years in prison. “They knew about the murder plans and acted as a lookout,” the court said. Konrad W., who arranged the weapon, received 14 years in prison for complicity. Ludgardo S. was acquitted of De Vries’ murder but convicted of other charges. And Divainy K. and Christopher W. were also acquitted.
Highly secured court bunker
The trial took place in the heavily secured court bunker in Amsterdam-Osdorp, with the media present in large numbers, together with family members, colleagues and friends of Peter.
Ridouan Taghi and Marengo trial
The investigation into the possible clients, in which the name of Ridouan Taghi is mentioned, is still ongoing. Although the motive behind the murder of De Vries could not be definitively determined, the judiciary states that De Vries’ alleged confidence in a key witness in the Marengo trial was a possible reason.
