Denmark comes up with a series about Queen Margrethe

A Danish version of The Crown? Yes please!

‘What they can do in England, we can do too!’ the Danes must have thought. There will be a new television series focusing on the life of their former queen Margrethe. Just like in The Crown, both the highs and lows of the royal family will be discussed. How fun!

Danish version of The Crown

We really had to swallow when our favorite Netflix series The Crown came to an end. Where do we get our daily dose of royal drama? Fortunately, Denmark has now come up with an answer, in the form of a similar series about the Danish royal family!

The Danish channel TV2 announced that the series will be called ‘Af Guds nade’ (By God’s grace). Producer Pernille Bech Christensen called it an “important story that concerns all Danes, told from the point of view of the Danish royal family with Margrethe at the center.”

Girl and her family

According to TV2, the series starts in 1940, with the birth of Margrethe. “It is the story of a family, of an institution, and of an anachronism that struggles to maintain its relevance in modern times. The royal family is something that all Danes share, whether you are a supporter, an opponent or just somewhere in between,” says Christensen. “But above all it is a story about a girl and her family.”

Release date

Are you, like us, excited for this new series? Unfortunately, we will have to wait a while before this will appear. Filming will probably start in 2025, and nothing has been announced about the cast yet.

In the meantime, fortunately, we can still enjoy ourselves with the brand new Videoland series about our own royal couple that will appear this spring. Streaming platform Viaplay has also announced that they are working on a series based on the love story of King Harald and Queen Sonja. We also have to be patient for this Norwegian fairy tale – it will be released in 2025.
