Joost Klein shares emotional message to parents: ‘Forever your son’

A remarkably vulnerable message from the artist.

Just less than a week to go and Joost Klein will represent the Netherlands in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Although this is a fantastic experience, the singer would of course wish his parents could have witnessed this. He shares a vulnerable letter to his father and mother on Instagram.

Tribute

On Monday morning, Joost left for Malmö to prepare for his semi-final performance. His song Europapa is a tribute to his father and can be seen as a story about an orphan who travels through Europe to find himself and tell his story.

Joost lost his parents at a young age. His father died of cancer when he was twelve years old and a few years later his mother died of cardiac arrest. Joost would have liked his parents to have been able to experience his Eurovision Song Contest participation. “Hi mom and dad. I am now in Malmö for the Eurovision Song Contest. It feels surreal. I think about you a lot.”

With Europapa, Joost hopes to encourage people. “Hopefully some people can find recognition or understanding. My darkness will turn into light. Forever your son.”

Eurovision Song Contest

On Thursday, May 9, Joost will be in the second semi-final in Malmö and will perform the song Europapa. Of the sixteen countries performing on May 9, only ten will get a place for the final. The final will take place on May 11, 2024.

If we have to believe the bookmakers, Joost will easily secure a place in the final. For example, he would be in fifth place among bookmakers. Good luck in advance on May 9, Joost!
