“Diana took care of me because she was almost three years older than me,” he begins his story.
Even more than 25 years after Princess Diana’s death, previously unseen images or anecdotes of her occasionally appear. This is the case again: Diana’s younger brother, Charles Spencer, has revealed what his sister feared in her younger years.
Younger brother
If you are fond of family resemblances and stories, you will find historian Charles Spencer in the right place. Every now and then he takes a new photo from the archives to show and tell more about his family history. Charles, also known as the ‘9th Earl Spencer’, is Princess Diana’s brother, three years younger. The two always had a good bond, which is evident from the memories he still regularly shares.
Biggest fear
Charles spoke to the Times ahead of the release of his new book, A Very Private School, in which he discusses the past abuse he says he suffered while at Maidwell Hall Prep School. But in addition to the frank revelations about his youth, his relationship with Lady Di was also not left undiscussed.
For example, he said that his older sister Diana took care of him after their mother left the parental home, and that she was extremely afraid of the dark. He explains: “Diana took care of me because she was almost three years older than me. She said the worst part was hearing me crying in the hallway because she was terrified of the dark and couldn’t come to me.” Touching, but also a bit sad.
From the archive
Every now and then Charles shares more memories like this on his Instagram page. Photos and videos of his home, Althorp Estate, can be found regularly. And there is also the occasional touching snapshot from the past, in which Princess Diana can also be seen in some cases.
In any case, we hope that he finds more of those beautiful pictures in his archive, or of course reveals secret character traits like this one of his sister. This way we can keep the memory of Lady Di extra alive!
