Aha: this is how much weight you gain from a tompouce

And how long do you have to wander around the flea market to get that off again?

Whether you are enjoying the royal visit in Emmen, strolling through the flea market, or enjoying one of the many King’s Day festivals with a blanket in the grass: a real orange tompouce is part of it. But if you want to watch your diet, you would do well to enjoy it in moderation!

Tompouce

A nice glass of Aperol or an Oranjebitter, with of course a tompouce: it is just as reminiscent of King’s Day as the flea market, the waving flags, and the royal excursions through the country.

If you end up with blobs of cream on your orange outfit every time, the golden tip according to the Glamial editors is to leave out the forks and dismantle the tompouce a bit before you sink your teeth into it. By removing the top of the cream and pressing the glaze against the bottom, you can enjoy your snack without squeezing out the baking cream. Thank us later!

Calorie bomb

Anyway: with so much pastry cream, puff pastry and sugary icing, it won’t surprise you that a tompouce contains a lot of calories. How much exactly? That varies a bit per producer, but assume about 300 kcal per piece. Because these pastries aren’t exactly filling – and because they’re just extremely appetizing, let’s be honest – you can often eat several of them without breaking a sweat. Delicious, but that adds up!

Professor of Nutrition and Health Jaap Seidell already told Libelle around Easter that you need to eat about 7,000 extra calories to gain about one kilo. A quick conversion means that this amounts to about 23 tompouces. Then you must really love these decadent cream pastries!

Exercising off

Suppose you started the day with a tompouce with coffee… how long do you have to stroll through the flea market before you have ‘finished’ this delicacy? At a nice walking pace it would take you an hour to an hour and a half. This depends a bit on your age, height, body weight, and your metabolism. You can finish the fastest by running or swimming – then you will have already used those 300 kcal in about twenty to thirty minutes.

Of course, a moment of enjoyment should also be possible from time to time. As long as you eat a healthy and varied diet for the rest of the year, an orange tompouce (with an orange bitter) is not bad from time to time. Enjoy it!
