A side parting on the left, the front locks a bit messy on the forehead: King Willem-Alexander’s hairstyle is cast in concrete, just like his clothing style. Since 2019, the locks have been accompanied by a beard and the hairline has started to recede very subtly, but otherwise a metamorphosis is nowhere to be seen.
Should it? No. For a head of state, stability, just like continuity, is a very important concept. If the appearance matches that, that’s a bonus.
But sometimes, when the king, as a great exception, puts a lick of gel in his hair, I wonder again and again why he doesn’t do that more often. The picture immediately looks different, doesn’t it?

….and sometimes suddenly during a work visit.
Am I Team Gel? Of course. Since the king’s beard goes its own way in terms of color and density, the hairstyle only needs to be blown away a little or be a little too long and the whole thing immediately looks a bit unkempt. If he were to put a lick of gel in his hair at those moments, it would certainly improve the picture. By the way, I thought it was great that Willem-Alexander had a significantly longer/fuller haircut during corona times because the hairdressers were closed. It is often about his wrong corona decisions, also from a PR perspective, but fortunately there were also good examples. The choice not to flout the rule was one of them.
Okay, time to vote. Just say it: lick of gel or not?
