Forest fruit tea, strawberry tea, green tea or ‘normal’ tea. We Dutch are real tea lovers and are therefore very happy with a good high tea with lots of tea and tasty snacks. But that peeing thing, right? Have you also noticed that you often have to urinate after drinking tea? In this article we explain why.
Tea makes you pee
It’s a fact: tea makes you pee. Every drink makes you pee, that’s normal. But it is noticeable that most people who drink tea have to urinate a little more often. Some people suffer from it so much that after drinking a cup of tea they have to pee again on the go. Super annoying, because we Dutch are tea lovers and tea is delicious.
Tea contains theine
Tea contains theine, a substance found in tea leaves that can make you less tired. Don’t confuse it with caffeine. Caffeine and theine are the same substance, but come from a different source. It is claimed that theine has a diuretic effect. Not to the extent that you lose more fluid, but that your fluid has to leave the body faster, so you have to urinate more quickly.
That’s why you have to pee so often
The theine in the tea makes you have to urinate more often. The kidneys are temporarily more stimulated, which means urine is produced faster!
Good news for the tea lovers!
Are you a real tea lover and do you drink tea regularly? Good news! Your body will get used to this ‘pee effect’.
