Fashion forward: we will see these fashion trends this year

From the runways and influencers to your wardrobe!

Trends come and go. With every Fashion Week or viral video, there are clothing items that gain (or lose) popularity and influencers, celebrities and royals regularly inspire us with their clothing choices. But guess what? The biggest trend of 2024 is timeless fashion. Quality over quantity, love for vintage and investment pieces predominate this year. We list everything for you.

Capsule wardrobe

2023 was the year of timeless looks. For example, think of the typical black, boxy blazer and the perfect oversized white t-shirt. But there are even more items of clothing that you can add to your wardrobe to create a so-called capsule wardrobe. Who What Wear has put together a list of versatile basics that simply need to be in your closet.

1. Loose-leg jeans

While 2022 was the year of straight-leg jeans, in 2024 – just like in 2023 – baggy jeans will take center stage again. And although the catwalks tried to convince us that we should all wear low-rise jeans, mid- and high-rise jeans are definitely not out of the question in the coming year. This roomy, more casual fit is ideal to combine with a cozy, thick sweater in the winter or with a nice top in the summer.

2. Midi and maxi

Move over miniskirts; we are big fans of skirts with a midi or even maxi length! They are a lot easier to combine and also much more suitable for the Dutch climate. Because what could be easier to style than a long, elegant satin skirt or a chic A-line? All you need to complete the outfit is a nice pair of shoes and a matching top.

3. Minimalist tote bags

If there is one bag in which you carry all your knick-knacks, it is a spacious tote bag. Even in 2024 we will continue to spot minimalist variants on the arms of Instagram’s best dressed. Especially if you are looking for a bag for which you are willing to make a generous investment, a minimalist tote is very suitable. You can use it for many different purposes, so you will take it with you more often. In addition, there is another big plus: it will undoubtedly fit a laptop!

4. Mid-heel heels

We are happy to take the most subtle shoe trend of 2023 into the new year. The mid-height shoe is and remains the perfect balance between chic and comfortable. And who wouldn’t want that? We actually want them in all shapes and sizes, from mid-heel ankle boots to festive kitten heels that you can dance on all evening. Our wish list is full of them, and one of the reasons for that is because there are no blister plasters involved when wearing these shoes.

5. Scarf coats

After the enormously popular Toteme coat turned the jacket world upside down, the so-called scarf coat has returned year after year in new colors, lengths and fabrics. And we completely understand that, because this ultra-chic coat takes the hassle out of styling a winter outfit and combines everything you need to stay warm and stylish in one elegant piece of clothing.

6. Wide-leg trousers

And we conclude the list with a classic that has been a staple on the streets for years: the wide-leg trousers. The fitted trousers with wide legs remain a great favorite of many fashion lovers, and we don’t blame you! We often see fashion influencers wearing floor-length trousers, but if you find that uncomfortable you can always go for trousers with a slightly flared leg. Believe us, this model also does wonders for your figure!

In short: basics are more than welcome in our wardrobe in 2024! By combining different neutral pieces of clothing, you will undoubtedly look stylish in the new year.
